Since completing her various training, Murphy has worked in the hair and makeup departments on dozens of projects in film, television, and stage, including Disney’s Aladdin on Broadway, Candide at Carnegie Hall, and HBO’s The Deuce. As a first-year student in a theatrical makeup course at MMC, Meg Murphy ’13 says she stumbled in to what would eventually become her career. “Once I figured out that I was talented behind the scenes, I dove in to the world of design and ultimately running Broadway shows.” With help from costume designer and former MMC faculty member Kirche Zeile, Murphy began her off-Broadway career by junior year.
After graduating from Marymount Manhattan in 2013, Murphy enrolled in the Rizzieri Aveda School as part of their full cosmetology, intensive makeup, and Master Styling programs.
Although eight shows a week keep her very busy, Murphy loves to cook and bake, frequently treating the cast and crew to her cupcake concoctions. She continues to freelance for film and television in hair and makeup, all while balancing her hectic schedule. “My experience has taught me to always be kind, humble, gracious, and generous with my spirit and passion for what I do,” she says. “Take your job seriously but never take yourself too seriously. Respect yourself and respect the work, but always have fun.”
