Marymount Manhattan College has launched MMC Engage, the College’s first inclusive community engagement platform and mobile app. With MMC Engage, all members of the community can access helpful College resources, learn about programming and virtual events, chat with other members of the community, and more, all with the touch of a button.

Student Government Association (SGA) President Marchael Giles ’20 had long dreamed of bringing a mobile app to campus to connect the community through technology, having previously served as the organization’s Senator of Media and Technology. “One of my main goals as SGA President this year was to increase campus engagement,” says Giles. “We are the generation that most utilizes social media. It’s how we connect, near and far. This sparked an idea. I wanted to give our student body a tool where they can be heard and always be in the know. Whether it is school closings, things happening around our campus, all things having to do with the shows, or if someone lost their AirPods in the Commons, again. I wanted us to be able to merge all the different websites we have to use for school, whether it being Outlook or Blackboard, and have them accessible in one spot for all of us. I wanted to create something that would allow us to have the resources our school provides us in the palms of our hand. This idea later blossomed to what we know now as MMC Engage.”

Indeed, by having MMC Engage, students are now able to easily join registered student organizations they’re interested in, while student leaders have an accessible, modern, and user-friendly platform to reach out to the community and share organizational updates, events, and meetings. The app also provides topic forums such as “Lost & Found” which allow users to share any missing or found items around campus. Along with specific forums and groups, Marymount Manhattan College has its own general feed, allowing the entire MMC community to post and communicate with each other, just like Instagram, but only for its vibrant community!

MMC Engage is a dual platform, with users having the ability to switch between its web platform and its mobile app for both Android and iOS devices. Some key features include a community directory, meeting scheduler, and chat box. These features allow its users to virtually connect and build relationships on its platform. In addition, MMC Engage pulls data from each user’s activity to format a Co-Curricular Transcript - a new document to track engagement. Students can also automatically earn different badges that speak on their involvement, which they will be able to put on their resume.

“MMC Engage allows our community to easily communicate and stay connected in a society that values being on the go,” says Dayne Hutchinson, Ph.D., Assistant Dean and Director of Student Development and Activities, who has led the charge for MMC Engage. “This app is the culmination of many hours of hard work by various areas of the College, and we are so happy it’s finally here!”

Ready to download the app? It’s simple! Search “MMC Engage” in your app store and click “download.” Once you have installed the app, open it and sign in with your MMC email and password.

Many thanks to all who were involved in this groundbreaking launch - especially to the IT department for their help in materializing this platform!
