Tahneer Oksman

Tahneer Oksman is Associate Professor of Academic Writing. Her scholarship and teaching includes writing, visual narrative and comics, memoir studies, women’s literature, and Jewish American literature. She has taught themed first-year writing classes on topics including Graphic Storytelling, Writing About Photography, Into the Wild, Writing the Visible, Autobiography and New York City, Space, Place, and Identity, and Online Identities. She has taught the MMC New York City seminar, New York’s Literary Women, many times, and co-taught, with Professor Michael Colvin, an EWL literary seminar, Visual Memoir. She has also regularly taught Arts and Media Reporting and Criticism (JOUR310), a seminar in which students practice writing reviews (of TV, film, and music, among other things) as well as profiles. In Fall 2021, she will be teaching an EWL literary seminar, Comics as Literature.

Prior to joining the faculty at Marymount, Professor Oksman taught courses in writing, graphic narratives, and American literature at Brooklyn College, NYU’s Gallatin School, and Rutgers University in New Brunswick. She also served as Co-Coordinator of the Writing Across the Curriculum program at Brooklyn College.
