Carmen Coll

Professor Emeritus of French Studies

Dr. Carmen Coll was born and educated in France. She received her Masters in English Literature from the Sorbonne, Paris. She then came on a Lectureship to New York and later enrolled in a Ph.D. program in French Literature. She received her doctorate in French Literature (17th century - Molière) from the Graduate Center, CUNY. Dr. Coll has been awarded the title of “Officier” in the Order of Academic Palm by the French government. She is now retired and became Professor emeritus of French studies at Marymount Manhattan College, where she chaired the Department of French and organized various poetry, cinema, photography, and painting events.

Dr. Coll is the author of a book (Le Monde des jeunes) and numerous articles and essays on subjects ranging from seventeenth-century literature to the life and work of Duong Thu Huong, women in French cinema, Business French, and France within the EU.

She was selected to partake in international programs in Vietnam, New Zealand and Australia (Citizen Ambassador Program of People International), Cambridge (UK), Sousse (Tunisia), and France. Additionally, Dr. Coll is a board member of La Société des Professeurs Français et Francophones d’Amérique (SPFFA).

Dr. Coll is enjoying her retirement by expanding her artistic side through collages, photography and voice-over.
