“The business program at MMC fosters true leaders. Led by superb educators, students are given all of the tools and resources needed to not only reach noteworthy career goals, but also to make an impact in the community and be their truest selves along the way.”

As a Junior at Marymount studying Finance, I have been able to make a professional impact, even in the midst of a pandemic. In the fall of 2020, I interned as a Venture Capital Analyst at Equal Equity Impact, a nonprofit impact investing firm. I remotely sourced venture capital deals, specifically screening for early-stage companies led by ethnic minority, female, and LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs to democratize capital allocation. I collaborated with interns from Ivy League schools and 2 co-founders with experience at J.P. Morgan, Goldman Sachs, and Crewe Capital to implement investment strategies, produce meaningful financial models, and conduct overall due diligence.

Currently, for the Spring 2021 semester, I am interning as an Associate Consultant for ViewShift Partners. VSP is an advisory firm for early-stage startups. In my role as a consultant, I am working to improve the business model of a startup ocean infrastructure company based in Australia, whose unique nanotechnology provides coral reef restoration and biodiversity conservation to a $21.9 billion potential global market. This semester I have also been accepted into the Out for Undergrad (O4U) Business Conference for Spring 2021. O4U is the premier conference for LGBTQ+ students, held at Goldman Sachs, to network with professionals in the industry and learn more about specific companies and career opportunities.

I have also accepted an internship offer with Northwestern Mutual for Summer 2021 as a Financial Representative Intern in Jacksonville, Florida. Northwestern Mutual is a Fortune 500 company and the internship has been ranked as a top 100 internship for 24 straight years. As a part of the onboarding requirements, I obtained my FL 02-15 Life, Health, and Variable Annuities Agent License in February 2021.

Truly, none of these accomplishments would be possible without the guidance of the faculty at MMC. My advice to students is to utilize every resource that Marymount has to offer. If you do, you are sure to succeed.
