Spotlight Story

After majoring in International Studies during his time at Marymount Manhattan, Raghib Allie-Brennan 13 is now making a name for himself in local politics. Advocating for the people, Allie-Brennan is now the youngest member serving in the Connecticut State House, advancing policies that benefit the second district and all of Connecticut.

The Second District State Representative has also been named vice-chairman of the House Energy and Technology Committee as well as Assistant Majority Leader — a key member of House leadership. He will also serve as a member of both the Public Safety & Security Committee and General Law Committee.

Allie-Brennan’s political career dates back to 2014 when he spent two years as a congressional policy adviser in the U.S. House of Representatives. His efforts in this role touched upon a range of hot-button issues, including environmental justice, energy, foreign policy, and LGBT rights.

Unsurprisingly, Allie-Brennan was an active and engaged contributor to the Marymount Manhattan community as a student. During his time on campus, the former class speaker believed that a strong liberal arts curriculum helped students understand their place in the world and relationships with each other.

“Marymount played a crucial role in directing my future career as a community leader and advocate,” he says. “Professors such as Ghassan Shabaneh, Andreas Hernandez, Rosemary Nossiff, Lauren Brown, Laura Tropp, and Debra Tillinger went above and beyond to teach me what it really means to be a local and global citizen.”

On January 9th, Raghib Allie-Brennan was sworn in as Connecticut’s Second District State Representative succeeding Republican incumbent Will Duff.
