Christina McDonald ’15

Class of 2015, B.A. in Business with a concentration in Media and Arts Management, Minor in Philosophy

  • Christina McDonald, Class of 2015

“The main reason I wanted to come to MMC was to ensure that my college experience would enable the use of New York City as my campus. I also knew that I wanted a small and tight-knit community to fall back on in the midst of this huge and overwhelming city. That is exactly what Marymount gives to students. The small class sizes, close relationships between students and faculty and staff, hands-on experiences, and opportunities to get involved are immense. This campus really provides a well-rounded and community-oriented educational experience for students.”

“The Business Division at MMC was exactly where I needed to be in order to pursue my future career path. I always had a passion for music and the arts, but my ultimate interests were in leadership and management. My major in Business, along with my concentration in Media and Arts Management, was the perfect fit for me and really allowed me to pursue opportunities that fuel both my passion for the arts and my desire to be a leader in the arts industry in NYC. I had the ability to take courses within the realm of Business that were the most interesting to me including Marketing, Public Relations, Advertising, Business Law and Consumer Behavior.

I completed four internships during my college career, which were made possible by collaborating with my Business faculty and MMC’s Career Services Center. MMC really provides students with the resources they need to build a resume, network, and take advantage of the city around them. I was able to intern at the largest Broadway theater in Times Square as a General Management Intern (the Lyric Theatre), a prominent casting office in NYC with exposure to casting in a variety of departments (Telsey + Company), a well-known non-profit theater in which I assisted with marketing and development (the York Theatre), and at Viacom, one of the world’s leading media companies, where I was a Production Management intern for the Spike TV network during my last semester at MMC. Each of my internships involved media and the arts but engaged me in different aspects of the business. The skills I learned in each position expanded my knowledge and made me a versatile individual capable of pursuing a variety of positions in the NYC entertainment industry.

The week before graduation, I was fortunate to receive an offer from the team I worked with at Viacom to join them as a Production Assistant for Spike TV. As an intern, I had assisted Viacom with budgeting and reconciling expense reports for various television projects during their rebranding launch. Now, I am at Viacom again, but as an official member of the Production team at Spike. I couldn’t be happier to have made the connections I did and get to pursue a full-time position with such a wonderful company. “

Christina is presently at Sony Music Corp. and is also in a graduate program leading to an M.S. in Strategic Marketing Communications from the Gabelli School of Business at Fordham University with a Dean’s Scholarship Award.  As Christina says: “This graduate degree will help me identify new strategic approaches and industry-current techniques to continue building my career in the Entertainment and Media Industry.”
