Science Students Make Strong Showing at Honors Day

Students in the Natural Sciences won three major awards at Honors Day 2021.

Marymount Manhattan’s first virtual Honors Day Colloquium took place on April 13, 2021. Students in the Natural Sciences delivered six presentations on a variety of topics in urban ecology, environmental health, and chemical biology.

The following students were mentored by Assistant Professor of Biology Matthew Lundquist:

Elizabeth Scott ’22: Ecological Function of Urban Rooftop Garden as a Green Roof in New York City

Martha Madrid ’21: Impact of Public Transportation on Urban Green Space Distribution and Access in New York City

 

The following students were mentored by Professor of Chemistry Alessandra Leri:

Marjan Khan ’20: Quantification of Fecal Indicator Bacteria on NYC Sidewalks and Evaluation of Transfer to the Indoor Environment

Gianna O’Connor ’21: Quantitative Correlations of Severe Covid-19 Effects and Markers of Environmental Racism by New York City Neighborhood

At the Awards Ceremony, Elizabeth Scott ’21 was presented with the Alumni Association Award, Marjan Khan ’20 was presented with the Student-Faculty Collaboration Award, and Gianna O’Connor ’21 won honorable mention for the Dean’s Award of Excellence.
