Ethan Giroux ’22 Awarded 2020 Jeannette K. Watson Fellowship

“The JK Watson Fellowship application process has been an exciting and enriching experience,” says Giroux. “Although applying was not easy or free of anxiety, it allowed me to gain many useful skills such as resume building, communicating effectively during an interview, and how to present my value as a business person.”

According to Pielah Kim, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Marketing and Chair of this year’s fellowship committee at MMC, Giroux inspired the Watson interviewers with “visionary solutions” to climate change through proposed innovative renewable power energy sources and sustainable farming methods and technologies to support under-served communities.

As a first-year J.K. Watson Fellow, Ethan is currently working for the City of Pittsburgh to be a member of Sustainability and Resilience, Food Security Project. In next two years, Ethan will have opportunities to intern at leading local and global organizations which will deepen Ethan’s knowledge and experience in a field of his interest.”

“What I’m most excited for about the Fellowship is that I’ll be able to learn and work with a group of peer business people with unique ideas and vision,” says Giroux. “The hands-on work I’ll experience during my internships is also extremely exciting since I’m a hands-on learner. I hope to gain a lot of valuable experience!”

About the Jeannette K. Watson Fellowship

Jeannette K. Watson Fellows are chosen through a nomination process from freshman and sophomore students at 12 New York City partner institutions. The fellowship’s comprehensive programming includes three summers of internships at leading organizations around the world, a cohort of supportive peers and ongoing mentorship. Nearly 300 Jeannette K. Watson Fellows have been named since the fellowship’s start in 1999.

Watson Fellows are represented in America’s top graduate programs and go on to become leaders in their fields including law, medicine, public policy, business and the arts. They are the recipients of numerous Fulbright, Truman, Coro, Urban Fellow and many other national awards.
